Modafinil vs Adderall: The Winner Is

Modafinil vs Adderall The winner is

Modafinil is a wakefulness-promoting agent, treats narcolepsy, (a condition characterized by an extreme tendency to fall asleep whenever in relaxing surroundings.), shift work sleep disorder, and excessive daytime sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea. It sounds like a stimulant that can be dangerous if abused. You need to be careful when taking this drug; probably you should take it under the supervision of a health medical professional. Recreationally, it is taken as a cognition-enhancing agent, which is a smart drug also called smart drugs or cognitive enhancers—are drugs, supplements, or other substances that improve  certain cognitive function, specifically the main functions such as memory, creativity, or motivation, in healthy individuals. Quite frankly this sounds like a very dangerous practice to consume this drug as a cognitive enhancer; if a person insists on using the drug for this purpose they should really do it under a doctor’s guidance. You just don’t know if it will damage the brain or not if it is abused.

In English-speaking countries it’s sold under the names Alertec, Modavigil, and Provigil and specifically in the United States it is considered as a classified as a schedule IV controlled substance which restricts its usage because it could be highly addictive. In most other countries it is sold as a legal drug with no limitations and in Egypt it is sold as an over-the-counter drug under the name Bravamax. At first its effects were unknown but now it is believed to be a weak atypical dopamine reuptake inhibitor so they say. However, it may be this drug has other effects on the human body. Another restriction is the drug may cause skin or hypersensitivity issues and psychiatric reactions the European Medicines Agency has advised its use for new patient prescriptions be limited to treat sleepiness related to narcolepsy.

The drug is also used for the neurological fatigue reported by some who suffer from multiple sclerosis. In a 2000 study conducted by Cephalon, 72 people suffering from the fatigue induced by multiple sclerosis were treated with modafinil and inactive placebo. The study went on for nine weeks and the subjects reported less fatigue from taking modafinil over the placebo. The statistics were noticeably different as well between the modafinil and placebo in the fact that modafinil reduced the fatigue in the subjects a lot more than the placebo. The lesser dosage of modafinil was much more effective than the large dosage of modafinil for reducing the subject’s fatigue. The drug supposedly help to calm sedation and fatigue in depression, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, opioid-induced sleepiness, spastic cerebral palsy, and Parkinson’s disease. It is said to help improve excessive daytime somnolence and fatigue in primary biliary cirrhosis.

Challenging Conclusion

Modafinil is the winner in the drug comparison

Back to the original premise which drug is the winner in the great debate over which one is superior. We have compared the two drugs side by side extensively in a few categories. The winner in this competition will not be held in high esteem. Both drugs are very dangerous and except in a controlled environment under a doctor’s care they should not be taken. Modafinil is the winner in the drug comparison because the side effects were serious but some side effects of adderall will kill you. Adderall is not recommended for children under six.

Adderall is more addictive than modafinil to the point that it was suggested you track your usage of adderall from bottle to bottle. Adderall can cause sudden death in some cases. Adderall seemed to have more side effects than modafinil. If an overdose occurs with adderall it was advised to contact the poison center but not the case with modafinil. Adderall was suggested to not be consumed while a woman is pregnant. Modafinil was advised you consult a doctor if pregnant before using this drug. Adderall could harm a child in the womb and adderall will definitely show up in breastfeeding. Modafinil was said to be unknown if it would show up in breastfeeding or not. Modafinil wins this competition but it is still a harmful drug that needs to be taken with extreme caution.
